Why do you keep putting up unimaginative rubbish like this? Grain Edit and Upstruct were a step in the right direction – this is going back to work being produced 2-years ago.
@Regina – it looks that way if you’ve just recently started getting into web design (e.g. past 2 years) for people like us, who have been doing it for about, oh… 8 years or more? This is the stuff we chuck out in 5 hours.
@dudeydudedude, since you believe this design is “rubbish” please provide a link to a new design of yours. I would really like to see your cutting edge style. Not being hasty once so ever, I know that the wood texture and the paint texture has been done a million times over. I just like to see what style you think the web is headed, and what you believe to be not so trendy this year.
Ye i would love to see this guys work, if he has all these 8 years of experience he bangs on about then he must have his own cutting edge site? Mike G your site looks cool, i like the style, who carse if wood etc has been used before its nice see variations.
@Mike G – Unfortunately, I can’t disclose anything, as I work with a team, and this is just my personal opinion, not theirs, and I would be dragging in the group if I linked back to our stuff (because I didn’t exactly do everything from top to bottom).
However, since we’re on the topic of what I think looks good, these are a few of the sites that I think are great examples of what modern/cutting edge web work is: (I think that’s fair enough?)
@dudedudeydude,
LMAO! First off you mean to tell me you have 8+ years of experience and you have nothing to call your own? Next most of these other sites are Full on flash site, they’re not even apple to apple in comparison. They’re flash animated movies! There is nothing cutting edge about that, (no offense to the authors because they are great flash sites) but your way off base of the point. Come on man give me break!
It’s as simple as I don’t see any need to bring out my work to justify my opinion. It is, after all, an opinion. If a client told you “I don’t like what you did, I see this all the time”, does that make his opinion less valid than mine because he doesn’t have a site to show?
If say, Steve Jobs said that: are you going to argue that he doesn’t have a leg to stand on because he doesn’t design the Apple website himself?
You asked about “design” specifically, and the technology used isn’t in question here, but the approach used to give the site its own identity and style. If we compared screen shots of the sites with the one above, we would still be discussing design, not the technology used.
Besides, not all the sites I linked are Flash (if you wish to nitpick), and they too are great examples of what I think “cutting edge” design is about.
Now since you seem to be hiding behind the technology used in the sites I linked, let’s see you show us what you think is cutting edge design, and let’s see who knows what he is talking about.
@dudedudeydude: Regina just likes it , okay? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Does she, or everyone else for that matter, have to like what you like? You’re not telling me you are actually the “starndard” to conform to, are you? And Mike G. wanted to see what you got to show since you were kind of bragging your so called 8 years experience there. If you brag, always expect people to wanna see what you got. errrr.
@JC – Yes, I understand that Regina did like it, and no, I did not expect her to conform to what I like. She expressed why she likes the site,and I expressed why I dislike the site.
That’s the trouble here – everybody wants to hear people say “That’s nice, that’s great, wow, superb, etc.”, but when somebody says something negative, people don’t take it constructively.
Think of it this way: There is no difference between hearing “change this, it’s too blue” or “change this, it’s too common.” from a client.
In both instances, the client felt that the site wasn’t what he would consider “good”. Regina is free to feel that way, and so are each of us here.
The point I originally stated was that I felt the site was not unique enough to be given a spot. I’ve re-read everyone’s comments, and nobody really disagreed. Everybody agrees that this site is “nice” (which it is), but it’s not unique, and that was the point (opinion) I was trying to make.
So tell me… is that wrong? The comments section is here so that we can comment, whether it be good or bad. If you guys feel that the site is good – then go ahead and express why you feel that way. Nobody’s stopping you.
“This site suxorz”
and saying
“I don’t like this site because…”
The former is just some stupid random comment. The other one has reasons. It’s up to the site designer if he/she wishes to agree/disagree with those reasons (maybe he/she may have considered them, but had different intentions).
The site designer is free to discuss his design as well. Again, nobody is stopping him. As is the case that nobody is stopping you guys from disagreeing with me. =)
dudeydudedude, you make some good points…..but still would love to see some of your work as you clearly stated if you can chuck out this stuff in 5 hours can you imagine what you could make in say a week, it would me a master piece. I think the way you put across your opinion was what ruffled a few feathers.
@dudeydudedude: I think it’s okay to say something negative here because like what you said, this is a comment area – where people can comment on anything whether positive or negative. But what I think people reacted about was the “chuck-out-in-5-hours-and-8-years-experience” thing. It was just too cocky, man But you make a good point on the things you said.. apart from the cockiness though

Ugh. How Cliché.

I think this is a very nicely designed site. Simple, clean and beautiful. Very well done.
@Regina – it looks that way if you’ve just recently started getting into web design (e.g. past 2 years) for people like us, who have been doing it for about, oh… 8 years or more? This is the stuff we chuck out in 5 hours.
Pleasant designs = wallflower.
Morgan Hayes will be back shortly. —??
Maybe he read our comments.
Is “simple and clean” subjective? Why so much scorn just because it’s not groundbreaking?

but where has the site gone?
@tom-c,
Oh this is not my website, I’m just a curious reader.
Good question though maybe it’s being redesigned.
