I think this made in England site is pretty poor. And ANYBODY who complains about websites posted here as being good Photoshop designs as a bad thing is absolutely NUTS. Good design is good design. Period. People are drawn to beautiful objects, not ugly ones. Hooray for all the masterful Photoshop designers who are superfly with their HTML skills and can make their magic work on the web. Most of the posts on this thread are ridiculous. Kudos to the creator of bestwebgallery.com.

I have to admit that I sometimes find sites like BBH frustrating to use. Sometimes I get lost in all the commotion that I forget to look at what the site actually offers, if I was looking for a service and came to this site I would prob just turn it off.

@duddelbug – my fault for not making myself clear.

I did not mean that good Photoshop is bad. What I meant was that good Photoshop without consideration for ease-of-use, proper presentation of content, and an attempt to establish an identity is NOT a good thing.

It’s true that people are drawn to pretty things. I know I am. However, if you get lost or you can’t find your way around a site, no matter how good looking it is, you will leave due to frustration.

That is what I was talking about: There a lot of “web designers” that lay claim to that title when they themselves have no idea how to properly present the intended message of the site to its intended audience.

Good Photoshop skills are merely part of a designer’s tool set. It is the same with being “fly” with HTML. Those are the designer’s tools. However, those tools, on their own are not enough to create a good website design.

Good website design takes a bit more strategy, planning, and testing than simply creating repeating texture patterns for your backgrounds.

A great example of good website design is Apple’s own website – it’s representative of the company’s identity, you don’t get lost, you can easily find what you’re looking for, content is presented with near-perfect clarity, and it looks excellent graphically.

Anyway, I think I’ll leave this thread with that post. I can’t imagine being any clearer than that.

    Cheers.
