I think overall it is a really nice design. However, what I find distracting is the background image for the content area which distract from reading the text.
I like the design very much (I have a similar motif on my site). The background is busy, but I had no trouble staying focused on the content. Great design, imo.

This is weak imo. Each element stands alone and doesn’t help complement any other. I’m not so sure it should have been showcased here.
