Yeah, almost everyone has big monitors, true. But who the heck has their browser window running full screen on their big monitor? If your browser window is that big, almost every website is going to look crap.
But I agree about the tiling anyway – he should have just had a background color and made the image non-tiling.
I would venture a guess that in fact, few people have a 19″ monitor. I know that we tend to forget that outside of the world of graphic design or media production, there really isn’t a need for anything bigger than 17-19″. In fact, if you consider the fact that a lot more people are using laptops these days, that number is likely even lower.
Nevertheless, I do agree with what’s been said. For something as simple as fixing a background, it is worth the time and effort. It also shows attention to details as a designer. I did something similar a year ago at http://www.careynieuwhof.com.
I was thinking about implementing some sort of IE6 png support but after taking a quick stab at it I realized it just wasn’t worth the hassle. I talked it over with the client and we decided that it was a sacrifice we were willing to make.
I’ve kept an eye on the sites stats and browser usage and IE6 is just not high enough of a percentage to justify taking away part of the design properties of the site.
Thanks for the feedback as always. Much appreciated

Any user whose monitor is larger than 19in (which is many these days) will see that horrible tiling. Looks nice otherwise.
I hear ya, its so easy to fix i dont know why people dont bother!

My browser is always 100% of my screen and not “almost every website looks like crap.” lol
Hey all,
Designer here. Thanks for noticing the tiling issue. My monitor is a 19″ wide screen and I completely overlooked that.
Also someone noticed Biography is spelled wrong on the Bio page.
So thanks for the feedback. I’m working on it

looks nice, though would consider implementing IE6 .png support there…it’s still widely used browser and shoulndt be ignored.
If people continue supporting IE6 then it will never die. So I say, don’t add PNG support in the interest of long term designer sanity!
