    @Kola:

    I’m not trying to be an arse, but please contribute something worthwhile when you comment. If you simply want to attack people personally, there are a hundred other sites you could do that on.

    @dude: I can’t just shut up with what he said. Just like how you don’t shut up when people are against you. Try to empathize will ya. If you look at the thread, he was the one who started it.

    @Kola:

    I did. All he said was that he wasn’t surprised as to why this wasn’t appreciated properly, based on his knowledge of the site owner.

    It’s hard for me to call Mark “mean” because frankly, I agree with him. A lot of the very best designs are either a) not showcased here, or b) not given due recognition. While a lot of designs which are nothing more than the result of a few tutorials from Smashing Magazine or PSD tuts are showcased, even if they are of poor taste and lack intelligent design.

    Jamie made a very good point: harsh critique is only “mean” to beginners. Seasoned designers have reached a point wherein they WANT every mistake to be pointed out.

    Think of it as somebody who makes swords – they’ll try to find the smallest imperfection, and then fix it.

    People saying “that’s nice, wow, beautiful, how straight, etc. etc.” don’t help the seasoned ones, because they KNOW all of that. They know their designs aren’t perfect, but sometimes they can’t see it, so they ask “what’s missing from this?”.

    @dude: What I didn’t like was the Lalalalalala. He was being mean because of that and not because of the other stuff he said. Do you actually think he was being nice there? Look what happened, he ended up talking to himself and making himself look stupid (bad karma I guess). Got it?

    And oh, I guess you forgot to include option C:

    a) not showcased here, or b) not given due recognition, or c) these people did not submit them here at all. (Did you actually think BWG had to scour the web just to see what to post here next? I bet those really good website didn’t really care much about having their stuff showcased here anyway which could be the ONLY reason why they don’t show up here)

    Well, yes, the Lala stuff was unnecessary. True. I won’t defend him there.

    Re: not showcasing – well, hard to tell. BBH and Cuker showed up, and no award was given to either, although the both deserved it. If I do recall correctly, BBH was one of the very few websites which had ZERO critique and all praise. It was basically a perfect website design. But was it awarded? Nope.

    Yet some rubbish “web design superstar” site was given a best of.

    Quite possibly the best flash site I have ever seen. Just gorgeous. Click on their blog and look how slick everything loads.

    Also look how each time you click on a link the site color changes randomly.

    At this time it seems like Expression Engine is the top blogging platform out there right now. (from what I’ve read) Is that what you are using on your blog?
