Possibly one of the best uses of a full-screen sized header, yet the blog itself seems overly large and thus somewhat hard to read.

All in all, great show of talent. Just needs a little tweaking.

Love the theatrical approach but other than the nice visual elements, the typography within the blog posts is shocking!

For me typography is one of the most important elements in design and you may be a master of visual effects but poor typography will always let you down.

I’ll clarify my judgement for you…

    • The h1 could be a little smaller not too much maybe just a couple of point sizes.

    • The main body copy text is too large and needs to be no bigger than 12 point, the leading is far too condensed and needs opening up, in development terms, ‘line height’.

    • The ‘about’ copy in the right hand column is far too big again and the leading is very clumsy. The text yet again needs to be smaller and the leading needs increasing.

    • I think you could even make the move of using georgia for the whole of the copy too, it would be more in keeping with the graphic style that you have taken.

Don’t get me wrong I really like this site visually, it’s just that the typography could be tweaked to make this a whole lot better.

If you’re going to have a header that big at least a little bit of the actual content needs to be before the fold in my opinion. You just end up looking at a heavy graphical element that doesn’t guide your eye in any way.

I don’t like this site simply for the size. It’s too hard to read. I think I could love it if it were smaller.

I love sites with big bold typos and graphics, it is easy on your eyes and easy to read. I believe that each site must have it’s unique look and feel.

Thumbs up to Living Designs for braking the design rules if there’s any…i love the site….

Guys, thanks for the valuable feedback. I totally agree on certain things. Yes, it’s big because I made it big (and it’s not fault of the 24″ monitor I work with). It’s bigger than any other projects I’ve done so far … within past 12 years to be specific.

The design and typography is not done yet as I don’t get the time I want to spend on it. So, like the ‘about’ page, it is still work under progress. I’d definitely be making few tweaks based on the suggestions here.

I think this site would look great if the width was trimmed down and type trimmed down 2px. Still get the same effect but even on large resolutions it all seems very overwhelming. I love large type and imagery but I think it’s working against the design on this site.

i totally agree about bad typography. a designer who is able to design headers like this should do better with typography.

Not a big fan of the overall design, however, I think the site is quite unique, especially the header graphic
