Do you know what, I really like the clarity and boldness of this site and when I read comments referencing to other sites that are similar I am always dubious because there’s only so much you can do on the web in terms of grid systems etc… BUT! This is quite concerning when you see the same design styles being applied… It’s not exactly plagiarism as there is enough to make a distinction but this is too inspired in my opinion, thanks for the reference Amit, I’m not a great believer in exposing people like this but this is too close to the cloth!
I don’t necessarily think there is anything wrong with drawing inspiration heavily for other sites, but I think if that’s the case its definately not worthy of being listen on a CSS gallery like this.
I agree with your comment…
I don’t think there is anything wrong with drawing inspiration from others as that is the purpose of these sites, I just think it’s too heavily influenced, don’t you think, there’s actual visual styles that have been replicated?
When I think of deriving inspiration I think of bits and pieces from multiple sites with creative twists… I don’t think of actually replicating multiple design elements and pieces to call my own. I understand there will always be certain global styles/elements that we call trends, but this is copying, and I think it should be dubbed as such.
@Luaksz: Please point me to two of these thousands of sites that use a dotted bottom border in the mastheader, a colored bg for the mastheader and featured content area, a dotted border 20-60px high underneath featured content area, 4 column grid system, bottom ‘comment’ bubbles on the bottom border of sections, and larger than normal page titles, among other things.
They even did the stylized map with the bubble under “Agentur” which Odopod did under “Contact us”. A “Full-Service-Marketing-Agency” with no own ideas? Ts ts ts…
Thanks for your comments. Well, frankly spoken, Buffalo was a page which we’d seen before, but Odopod was unknown for us. OK, it can be true that Buffalo inspired us a bit too much, yes, but this was definitly not intended. Since it is not our objective to copy others’ ideas we have updated our design with some elements which we have used in our own print products before.

I can’t understand any of it… but it looks great!
*loading up google translator…
Inspired from odopod.com… there are few tweaks like color and few shapes…
Funny how the borders, shapes, and grid system nearly mimics it…. what a coincidence.
Museo Sans is used so much at this point and so erratically it just seems like a symbol for low quality design, at least for me.

A splash of inspiration from builtbybuffalo.com as well as odopod.com

Plus that’s one horrific shade of green.

@Rich
I tend to agree…
I don’t agree with the inspiration from odopod.com. Thousands of sites have the same layout, so why exactly Odopod?
I like some websites inside, especially Kurgesund.

Just sayin’…
The Odopod + Buffalo comparison was spot on.
Odopod did it better.
@Rich
Yes, maybe you’re right, now it’s clear for me. So… let’s ask Web:contact designers now
!
