Texture is okay… layout is the best part(Process page as Pete said). Intro typography is okay. Some simple padding errors sprinkled throughout, and I can’t help but feel the design has a ton of ego evoked from it which is why I, personally, do not like it.
I agree with Pat on this one. The site clearly has a “concept” behind it too, web designers so often lack substance on their folio sites. Galphin is trying to create a pastiche of himself and the type of brands his design syle comes from (that includes the self promotional content), I love it.
Pat, who is contradicting what he believes in? Certainly you couldn’t be responding to my initial comment.
In all honesty, who cares that your bad habit is eating McDonalds? Show me the work! For having a massive badge on your about page saying ‘IM A DESIGNER AT METALAB’ I expected to see something slick in the folio, not some dribbble shots.
Just my 2 cents though, as I said earlier. Not expecting anyone to agree with me (as usual).
First of all thank you to all the folks who had kind words.
@Rich: In all honesty, revealing little personal details helps users and clients feel connected with who I am – especially important in this online age where I don’t usually get to have face to face interactions with them.
Talking about what one does and marketing themselves is certainly not an ego stroke, nor was it intended as such.
Those wishing to see my work should notice the *only* line of text on the work page that clearly says I am busy working on coding a proper portfolio.
What I will respond to is that the only line of text on the work page was noted, yet I disregarded it for the simple reason that if it was my site I would not have went live without making sure everything was polished to a T.
Normally I wouldn’t launch without everything being complete, except that I already had started working at MetaLab full time and therefore didn’t need to worry about having the portfolio up yet.
Also, I’ve found great success using dribbble alone as a portfolio section, with more designs being provided to serious clients.
Was it the 3 year old site you looked at or the one on Cargo that I spent 10 minutes on? haha. By all means provide me with some feedback, I’m interested in hearing what you have to say.
Just a heads up. I couldn’t get to your site because it has “malware” on it. Chrome told me to stay away! Woopsy! That being said I like your portfolio and I am not sure why anyone would bring it up as a retort when we are meant to be talking about Tyler’s site.

Superb subtle texture and layout work, and really diggin’ the typography.
The process page is by far my favourite.

The ego is the best part, Rich. If you don’t believe in what you do, who will?
Also, the company name is Galpin Industries, not Galp Industries, as Nick has incorrectly indicated.

Agree to disagree on some things then.

Makes sense I guess, thanks for the insight.
Lovely typo!
haha. I love the fact that Rich has all these comments and I’ve just looked at his own portfolio site.
WHACK.

Marco, no link? hmm…
Hey Rich,

Yea I don’t know what the deal with it is, old Javascript must be what’s causing it. Thanks for the notice. Not sure why it was brought up either haha
