After being instantly repulsed by the VERY out of place banner ad at the top, I recovered, was able to scroll away and was left impressed by interesting nav and blog heading treatment.

I see Nick’s screen shot crops the top of the site off – very wise.

Thanks for featuring this guys. This was a collaboration between Scott Thomas (Obama for America Campaign), myself and the Fast Company design team. There was an interesting challenge for this product and I personally feel the outcome encapsulated a good part of our attempt at an answer to that challenge.

Huge love to the design community, Fast Company, Scott Thomas and all of you for reading.

Why the awful banner at the top? Completely destroys the credibility of the site. Couldn’t it be put on the right?

That aside, I think this is a refreshing approach to a blog. It let’s the content do it’s stuff with some intuitive approaches to the usual boring blog stuff such as archives and meta data etc.

I get the feeling there’s a designer sitting at his desk steaming over whoever’s idea it was to stuff the banner at the top though.

@Ian – Leaderboard banner advertising can command a very nice fee.

The banner itself would look much better centered over the left-aligned section.

The site is really classy – really like the nifty stripes functionality down the bottom.
