I dig the layout, concept, color palette; but the text seems to be fighting for the focal point. Maybe the upper image is a tad busy? Unsure, but overall I do like the site.

You have a point there. The header looks a kind busy because of the so many kinds of grey, that makes it looks busy. But i think it gives the site an extra twinkle! I do agree your statement: “Overall I do like the site” ;)

I think it’s the typography: font and kerning. They feel a bit too “vertical”, and the banner art is full of vertical lines as well.
