Nice minimalism. The orange hovers are cool in the nav.
A couple small details…the larger, italicized serif looks GREAT in Safari / IE8, but horrible in browsers with less smoothing [I use FF]. If the author isn’t concerned with non-Safari users, then no biggy.
Also, the gray nav text could be one or two shades darker as it is a bit of a strain to read.
I agree with the nav being a few shades too light.
Also, while I find the approach for the main navigation interesting, I wouldn’t use it anywhere outside of a personal site (which this is, fortunately). Reminds me too much of a “mystery meat” menu from years ago.
But of course, this is a personal site, and so the lady can do as she wants.

Nice ‘minimalist’ style design.
It’s nice to see a local designer get their work showcased as well. Congrats Andrea
The gray text is unreadable on my Macbook Pro.

Vancouver designers rocks ! That’s all I have to say.
I love the minimalist with green and orange.
