The fading of the background image into a single colour is also reminiscent of digital mash but I think the guy has taken it as inspiration and changed it enough to have this design called his own.
I like it, it’s an interesting background image but the continuity is slightly off. Why use handwritten text for some headers? And only once on a page? Should have just kept to the standard text and it would have flowed somewhat better in my (humble) opinion!

Navigation from f-i.com, mainheader style from digitalmash :)

@HR
it is dumb to say the navigation is “from” f-i.com. It’s is a vertical navigation to the left of the header. It has its own alignment, spacing, font, colors, rollovers etc. How can it be “from”?
Did f-i.com create the first vertical navigation to the left of the header?
I think the designer chose a decent navigation to fit the style of the page.
I DO think it is inspired by digital mash but its no way a “copy of”. Even the header has its own style and isn’t “from digitalmash”.
Hello everybody.
I first must say that I´m extremelly proud to get featured in this gallery, which is in my opinion one pf the best online today.
To answer some of the speculations here I must say yes, I am very much inspired by digitalmash, rob is absolutelly one of my favorite designers. In my opinion it´s mostly typographical and maybe the background color that resembles most, but sh%&# man, what are you gonna do.
The f-i navigation thing is far out to me, but another fantastic studio, one of my favorite. But they didnt to my knowledge invent the sidebar navigation, that´s more of a wordpress thing :)
Gosh man, I´m just so proud :)
This has really inspired me to keep pushing the site forward.

I actually think it looks better than both those sites.
gummisig keeps pushing the envelope. We have worked together and I must say the design resembles gummisig more than any other designer. Why? It embraces good practice on the web. It’s clear, easy to navigate, presents obvious links and scannable content.
But this is a designer forum so I guess you couldn’t care less.
Keep up the good work!

gummisig site is NOT like digital mash. Give it a rest. Black type / grey gradient… not even the same hues.
I checked most of the commenters links.. and what do you know.. not much there.

Well but usually when some sites are inspiring THAT MUCH they add those sites to the footer. It just happens to be a good habit.
it looks nice.. I liked it.. keep it up.. at least you didn’t make a website that looks like digital mash but looks bad.. though I don’t see much similarity…

@author: why? because he’s using a popular and trendy style of line-weight contrast? this doesn’t look a thing like digitalmash.
