May work better with the nav bar on the left as a static element? Just a thought.
Other than that, nice interaction, colours and layout.
Good job.

Really nice design - great colour choice, but the navigation annoys the heck out of me. I clicked on web expecting to see all of his web stuff, and the web stuff disappears. Seems a bit backward to me. I really don’t like having to think with navigation.
It’s also pretty slow to load (I have 1MB broadband which isn’t great).
It took me a while to figure it out, I agree with Keren about the navigation. It wouldn’t be a problem if every link worked like that, but clicking ABOUT makes the about information appear, where as clicking the categories makes them disappear?
Really nice colours and a good, strong portfolio. I just think this design works against the user, it seems to over complicate things.
@Matt: I agree, it is an original idea, but how is it at all useable?
Strictly design? I think his site is great. Good works too.
Usability wise?… Not so much. There is no option for the user to close a project, only click on another link for a surprise. This also goes for the “About” page, which is really just a lot of text that pops out from the side. No close for that either, so once you click it will sit there until you click back on “About”, which makes no sense to me.
Also, for the people saying original… this has been done before, just in different ways so it’s not that amazing. Check out the Go Media site that just got put up on here recently.

This is great, such an amazing idea. I do agree that the nav is a bit confusing, that clicking a section takes those pieces of work away. If anything, when you click “web” for example, it should take away all works leaving just the web works, it seems like that would be a lot easier and more understandable.
I love the way the navigation buttons stick out from under the left hand column. The animation is very smooth, honestly I though it was Flash at first.

Should be more or less back in order now. Sorry about that! That’ll teach me to be lax about backups.
PS: going to implement the requested changes to the navigation, as well. I appreciate the feedback, it’s lead to positive change :)
