It seems “student-y”, which is fine everyone starts somewhere. It feels like everything (site and work) was stopped just short of effectiveness.

I am so bored of this ajax sites trying to imitate flash animations. The flash vs. ajax war must be get involved into the next level where both technologies can be used in a creative way, not one trying to imitate the other…
Hi! thanks guys for your suggestions, I changed the speed of transitions, the idea was to downplay the continent and go directly to the content, but sometimes you are so immersed in a design that you lose the viewer’s perspective. I hope it has a nicer feeling now.
About the negative reviews, I’m not an expert in web design, in fact this is my very first time, and I think it’s not so bad as a starting point. For those who are bored, I’m sorry but, hey! go to youtube! there are lots of kittens doing funny things!
Wow, I’m surprised at the harsh comments here. Lucia - I’ve been a professional designer for 11 years and commend you on your site. Your choice of color scheme is fantastic and the site has a very friendly feel. There is no right or wrong way to display a portfolio and it’s great to have variety as far as flash/ajax/static HTML. I found it interesting to navigate. Web concepts are repeated everyday, even by the greatest designers in the world. That doesn’t mean you didn’t make it your own. It kept my curiosity as to what illustration was coming next. Brava.

@David Perel:
I second that statement.
Compatibility with Opera isn’t a factor at all for 99% of the clients. The only people who care about Opera are developers.
And even then, the majority use either FF or Chrome.
@Frisk, works pretty well in my Opera 10.10, even on Linux.
This page seems to be valid XHTML strict, works perfect on Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera but not in your 10.50 (in Windows, I guess)… maybe you’re talking of a browser bug instead of a portfolio issue.

honestly…the design is well put together, but…the scrolling is way too much and the navigation is not calling for actions…but welldone
Nice overall design and layout but the scrolling is messy!

I like the horizontal scroll very much (i’m using it in my upcoming portfolio too), and i don’t agree that it’s an “overused concept”. 99,9% of the Websites you see are scrolling vertical -THAT is what i call an overused concept. ;-)
Anyway: I like the style very much, but i think the animation still isn’t very good. Whenever it scrolls, i try to focus on the cute little figures, but i can’t and it gives me headache instead. And it’s a little bit of wasting nice artwork, because you can’t see the figures as well, as they would deserve it. Last thing: You should apply at least some basic hover/mouseover-efect for the Navigation, that would increase the usage (or the feeling or however you wanna call it) a lot.
PS: And sorry for my english, it’s not my native language…

Cute illustrations.
Transitions are too fast.

I agree with Jamie. Cute but transitions are way too fast. Had to manually scroll sideways to see them clearly.

Boring/bare content, fast transitions as mentioned, overused concept

The scrolling is taking too long.
Perhaps its not the speed but trying to fit too much into it.
