I like and don’t like this.
I like the design and colors… but using it (yes i know i just need to hit left and right on my keys) seems cumbersome some how. And on the portfolio page, i feel like the movement on hover was kinda pointless. But everything is implemented well. Not trying to bash, just sayin.
Agree with Marshall. Love the colors, typography, and design overall. Something off about it all though… can’t pinpoint it. The feeling I get though is that it looks great but it lacks a certain depth that even great design and typography can’t save. Maybe the content is boring? :/
I like the rollover effect of the thumbnails but that’s about it.
I think the site is a little bit jQuery happy. Considering all of the interaction here that has to go through jQuery I thought I’d test it with javascript disabled in firefox. I had assumed there would be a fallback to anchor tags and non-ajax pages but there wasn’t. Now I’m not sure how many, if anybody, would have javascript disabled by default while browsing the web but it might be worth looking into fixing it up so the site at least functions without it.
Also @dudeydudeydudeFEN is that really pertinent? I think anybody who pops up to simply call another person an asshole might do well to keep their mouth shut.
I’ve never commented here but I’ve been checking the site daily for a while now.
While I agree with Joshua that if the only reason you’re commenting is to call someone else an ass, you might as well not say anything at all..
I have to say though.. when I first landed on this post & saw that there were comments, I started thinking to myself “What is that fuck-tard dudeydudeydude gonna say about this”
His comments are never constructive & he never posts a link to his site.. he’s probably a pissed off poser..
ANYWAY : ) I really like this one and this site in general.
I come here just to read DDD’s comments. He is usually the only one who has a reason behind his critiques.
Back to the design at hand. I like it and once I figured out that I need to use my keyboard I liked it even more. It’s ‘refreshing’ and ‘different’ and it inspired me.
@My stalker:
My opinion on this site is that it is…
Just for fun, I’ll let you wonder what I think of it.
@George:
I’ve mentioned that I work at Ogilvy. Do you really need a link?
However, I take offense at my comments being labeled as “not constructive”. I’ve always tried my best to explain what’s wrong / right about whatever is posted here. I praise what I feel should be praised, and critique what I feel should be critiqued.
Simply put: I call ‘em like I see ‘em. That’s it.
And yet, I’ve never asked anyone to agree with me, nor have I ever claimed to be “right”. In fact, I’ve always encouraged people to disagree with, or fend off my comments.
So if that way of trading ideas is seen as an “asshole”-like attribute, then I guess that means every creative that doesn’t patronize or brown-nose is an ass then?
If you want my true personal opinion, then it’s this: the entire web design industry needs less back patting, and more pinpointing. Everyone tends to imitate everyone, and all I’ve seen over the last few years are people imitating what they see as “trendy”, or simply applying a technique from an online tutorial, instead of inventing, or discovering, or actually checking if the style is appropriate for the subject matter.
I rarely see any innovative art direction or branding coming out of the new talents. “CSS3″ and “HTML5″ have replaced “Web 2.0″ as the new by-word for being up to date.
Nobody seems to realize that by following trends en masse, you are devaluing innovation and creativity, and instead, giving off the impression that being different is not as good as being “fashionable”.
So if valuing good, innovative, imaginative, creative, and original art direction and design (the kind of design which actually understands the fundamentals of what makes a design good), and loathing all the cookie-cutter photocopying is being a “pissed off poser”, then I’ll be more than happy to wear the label.
Your question was obviously directed in dude’s direction but for me it would FAIL, you have to find the right balance between originality and functionality, surely that’s the right recipe for success?

Just something to ponder on:
What is web design, what is it for, and why is it needed? (the question isn’t what the web is for, or what a website is for – it’s what web design is for).
When you have an answer, then ask yourself this question:
If that (your answer) is web design’s purpose, then what should be the criteria for good web design?
As an outsider to this conversation (and blogging altogether) I have to say… I love the dude. And to all the haters… take his advice to heart, he has the words of a pure genius.
As for the website… I agree it needs more. I like the “use the arrows” thing, its a nice little playful aspect. But something is missing above and below it, its too linear. Overall I think it still a work in progress, keep at it.

We are all waiting what dudeydudeydude (the biggest asshole here) think. Go, dudeydudeydude, go!
Hmm, not sure about this one, kinda like it but finding it a little slow to navigate around.
Plus I think the post and archive pages are wrecked down the bottom. Pretty sure its not supposed to look like this! http://drxlr.com/posts/well-hello-world/
Interesting concept though and with some refinement I think it could be spot on.

@dude
rant over with…?
@Dudeydudedude: Question. What do you think about a site that is unique and different but difficult to use?
ahhhh dudeydudeydude I really love you….(and I mean it!)
@jason
Your question was obviously directed in dude’s direction but for me it would FAIL, you have to find the right balance between originality and functionality, surely that’s the right recipe for success?
@Jason: my answer would be the same as Carl’s.

‘Blog’ item @menu breaks to the next line and it’s half-visible!
Design? Quite original, but rough! Awful errors in there!
