I’m pretty nitpicky as well and I agree some sites showcased here make me say ‘WTF?’, but I think sometimes we are pretty quick to judge. Maybe the focus here isn’t actually on the full site design, maybe its on the software itself. Can’t think of any other reason why it would be put up… quite cold and unengaging.
- gloss with noise
- large headings with indented text
- add buttons which have a subtle 1px inner shadow and 1px drop shadow
- left-to-right diagonal textures with crosshatch texture
All the Web 2.0 remarks aside, this is still an attractive website. By the standards of designers it may be sub-par but I think it does the job. The only major faults I can think of are the spacing of some elements and hover states for links.
However, it’s hard to judge the site, the studios previous work leaves a little to be desired, so perhaps these guys are newcomers?
@Jason – I’m not saying that at all man. If anything Obox was created intentionally to look familiar to what you see across the web. It is the safer option when it comes to e-commerce sites

*sigh*
BestWeb2.0Gallery…
You could replace that logo with any other web 2.0 logo and it would not make any difference.
I’m usually not this negative, but…this is crap.
This site is losing all credibility, there’s some really poor showings most recently, pure self indulgence!

is this the “best web” ?
Maybe not the best site ever to be featured, but I like the use of textures and the colours work very well.
It’s dark, very dark, but the site is functional and looks good to me.
@DDD – I would call this web 2.5
Just replace:
- gloss with noise
- large headings with indented text
- add buttons which have a subtle 1px inner shadow and 1px drop shadow
- left-to-right diagonal textures with crosshatch texture
The list goes on…

@David Perel You’re talking as if your Obox didn’t look Web 2.0-ish before. Gimme a break.

Pretty good, possibly a little too simple but still good. I really like the logo as well.
